bad things come in threes, right?

First it was the van ($500), then the furnace ($5,000) and now the garage doors won't open. The springs broke. Lovely. I swear, the next time we buy a house we are gonna go with a brand new one again. We never had issues like this with our old house. Luckily, the garage people are coming out tomorrow morning to fix them. We need to get the wave runner back in there so that Steve's parents can put their new cars in the garage at their house. I am hoping they don't need much help, because I have preschool tomorrow morning and won't be able to go out there and help them.
Speaking of preschool, we are finger painting tomorrow! Is it weird that I am excited about that? I love making messy projects with the kids. I am just not decided if I should have all 6 of them do it at the same time or maybe go 2 at a time. We are making flowers (letter F), so the stems and leaves will all be green, but I am letting them choose their flower color. Can't wait to try it! :)

Thankful

Baby is ok! :)

An achy feeling

Today is turning out to be a stressful day (my u/s to check Baby Bean's heart is at 1:30), so after storytime I decided to indulge in a little food therapy. Yes, I know that is bad, but come on people, look at me, obviously I use food to comfort myself! Rachel and I went to lunch together at Wendy's. I was good, ordered a small chili and water. Anyway, a lady and her little boy were sitting at a table nearby and having lunch with her dad. I watched them and wished so badly that I could have my dad here with me for one more lunch date like that. The grandpa was so happy to be there with them and he was playing with his grandson. I wanted to cry. Rachel never even got a chance to know my dad, he died before she was born. I miss him so much, especially lately with all the pregnancy crud that has been happening. I would give anything to have him play with her and give me a hug. He was such a good Papa to my kids and Dad to me (& Steve). Always calling to see how we were doing and helping us when we needed it. I miss talking to him about anything and everything and getting his advice or opinions on things. He was one of my best friends and I don't understand why I had to lose him so early. People always ask if his death was unexpected, and I never know quite how to answer that question. He was so sick my whole life, we all knew that he would die "early," but I guess I never thought that it would happen so soon. I was barely 29. I still need a dad, my kids need their papa. I think I always assumed it would be after I was done having kids, maybe when they were high school/college age. I never dreamed that I would be having babies without him here to share in the joy.
I don't know why it hit me so hard today. Must be the crazy pregnancy hormones or something. I see grandpas with their grandkids all the time, but something about this grandpa reminded me of my dad. It's been almost 6 years, you would think I'd have learned to deal with it by now. :)
Sorry, I didn't mean for this to end up being a novel. I tend to use my blog as a journal at times, and sort of go "stream of consciousness" with my writing.
OK, I am off to the specialist now. They told me that a doctor there would give me my results today, so hopefully I will have some good news when I return.

Worried, again

I don't know why, but this pregnancy has worried me from the beginning. I have been anxious about the health of this baby. At my first appt, the doc couldn't find the heartbeat with the doppler, so he did an ultrasound. Still couldn't find it, so he scheduled an emergency ultrasound for that same day. Luckily, we saw it and I let go of the panic that had been trying to creep in. I have just always had this nagging feeling in the back of my mind that something might not be quite right with this tiny baby bean. At my regular ultrasound, everything looked good, so I began to breathe easier. This morning, I got a call from the nurse saying that the doctor looked over my results and there wasn't a good picture of the baby's heart. They can't see all four chambers. They are referring me to a specialist maternal fetal medicine place for another ultrasound in hopes of finding what they need to find. I am not super worried yet, because the tech doing the u/s did mention that the way Baby was lying (sideways, back up) was making it hard to see everything. But, it does make me wonder if the feelings I've had so far have been more of a warning that just me being paranoid.

Icky sickies

Well, we have been so lucky this past fall/winter. No icky colds, Jake had a stomach bug and high fever for a couple of days, then he got strep, but that was it. Our luck finally ran out. Last Sunday, Rachel started coughing and by Tuesday was miserable, all coughing and runny nosed. Becka started on Friday and Jake last night. So far, the big kids haven't been hit as hard as Rachie was, so I am grateful for that. I am hoping that Steve and I don't get whatever it is. Right now though, all three of them have been coughing, especially when they get crazy and start running around. I am sanitizing everything around here today, both in hopes that I don't catch it and so that the preschool kids won't get it!

IT'S A......

GIRL!!!!!!

I had my ultrasound last Monday morning and found out that this one is most likely a little sister. Rachel was so excited, the first thing she said when we told her was, "Can she sleep in my room?" Jake was a little sad for a few minutes, but he is fine with it now. Keeps suggesting annoying names for her, like "Dorkas" so we call call her "Dork" for short. Nice, huh? Becka was pretty excited also!

Heat!

After 10 days of freezing, we now have heat again! Hooray! We had a new heat pump installed last Tuesday and Wednesday and I have never been so grateful for warmth! Especially since I have to get up several times a night and use the bathroom, darn pregnancy. :)
