Mother/Daughter Tea

Last Tuesday was the Mother/Daughter tea for the activity day girls in our ward. The girls made tissue paper flowers, placemats and decorations for us. We nibbled daintily on finger sandwiches, truffles and drank our "tea" while listening to a lesson on manners. We even made fancy hats to wear while celebrating! It was lots of fun!!!

Coupons!

Dana taught me how to coupon shop and get things for an awesome deal! I got everything in the picture for only $2.93! I saved$40!!! That's three boxes of wheat thins, 2 boxes of triscuits, one box of graham crackers, 2 Kraft BBQ sauces, 1 Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce, 1 Kraft salad dressing, one bag of marshmallows, one 6 pack of hershey bars and 2 packs of shredded cheese! I went out the next day and got $16.35 worth of stuff for free. I love it!

So, you all know I have been crazy making egg people lately. Well, I had them all ready to go, sitting on a table in the front room, since no one usually goes in there. This morning, Rachel went barreling through there and bumped the table. C3PO fell off and sustained fatal injuries. One eye popped off and his face cracked. Luckily I only had to redo his head. His body took a long time to put together. Here he is after his ordeal! Oh, the first picture is after Jake stomped on his head. Destructive little boy!

I am seriously drooling! Just saw the official movie poster for New Moon and I LOVE IT!!!! They totally nailed it! Oh heck! I am so excited!!!

Parade time!

Last Saturday was the "Hazel Dell Parade of Bands." We went with my mom (Nana) and Dana's family. It was hot and sunny and so much fun! Kylie and Rachie had a blast playing together, Lexi was so cute...she kept clapping and waving. Jake and Becka had fun trying to get people to throw candy to them!

The nerd in me is emerging...

I can't believe how excited I am about this...lol.
In first grade, the kids do a unit learning about eggs, they get to have an incubator and wait for baby chicks to hatch, etc. Well, one of the projects they do is an egg project. The assignment is for their whole family to work together and create something "eggs"tra special using eggs, egg shells, egg cartons, etc.
When Becka was in first grade, we decoupaged tissue paper on some blown out eggs to make a caterpillar. Guess what idea Jake and I came up with for his project?
That's right, STAR WARS! We are gonna make all the characters from the old movies (#4-6), Luke, Leia, Han Solo, Obi Wan, Chewbacca, Yoda, C3PO, R2D2 and Darth Vader. If I can figure out a way to make a model of the Millennium Falcon out of egg cartons, I am so gonna do it! I am so excited it is ridiculous! Time to get out my glue gun and have some fun!

We have been busy for the last few days. Saturday was Jake's final soccer game, then Steve had a baptism to go to, we worked in the yard and in the evening, went to the mall.

I will always buy my kids' shoes at Sears. They have the kidvantage program on their kids' clothes and shoes...every time you spend $100, you get some kind of coupon, plus they have the wear out guarantee...if they wear the clothes/shoes out before they outgrow them, you can get the same item in the same size replaced for free! I have known about it for a long time, but never really paid much attention to it. Well, in February, I decided to buy Jake a pair of shoes there, because he wears through them so fast. We ended up getting him a pair of Skechers, and I was hopeful that since they were more spendy and a better quality than what we have been buying him (Chucks at Target, etc) that they would last longer. Well, last week, he showed me that the bottom of one of his shoes had a hole in it. I wasn't sure if that would qualify for replacement, but decided to ask just in case. It did! Hooray! So now, Jake has a brand new pair of Skechers. They didn't have the exact same pair in his size, so he found another one he liked. I am excited about not having to fork out 40 bucks for a new pair of shoes! Thank goodness he stayed the same size!!

Sunday started out good, but quickly became a disaster! Steve made yummy breakfast croissants and hash browns for breakfast. He even gave me a couple of swedish fish on my breakfast plate alongside some strawberries. Jake had a bag full of sweet things he had made at school for me. My favorite was a little book that was about me...one of the pages says "My mom is awesome because she likes Twilight." :) Steve's morning meeting were cancelled, so he got to stay home and only had to be at the church an hour early. It was fun having him here on a Sunday morning.

Once we got to church though, things went downhill. Jake and Becka were arguing about who was going to sit where even before church began. Rachel started freaking out as the opening hymn began. I knew I was in trouble then. I took her out and calmed her down. We went back in and not 5 minutes later, she was kicking the back of the bench in front of us. I told her to stop or I was going to have to take her shoes off. She didn't stop, I took off her shoes and she completely went hysterical. So there I am...sitting in the third row from the front of the chapel, trying to carry a screaming, writhing Rachel out of the room...I had to climb over Becka to even get out of our bench. Ugh. I got her calmed down in time for her to go in and sing with the other Primary kids. She said she wanted to go up and sing the Mother's Day songs. Yeah, I should have known that wouldn't work. She got up on the stand and started BAWLING. Steve tried to get her to come over to him (he was all alone, the bishop and 1st counselor were both gone), but she wouldn't come. I couldn't get to her without disrupting things even more because she was smack in the middle of the whole group of kids singing. Thank goodness Becka was there. She picked Rach up and held her the whole time. So, all you heard was the kids singing, and anytime there was a break in the song/music, Rachel wailing. I felt so bad for the whole primary and the rest of the moms. I met Becka as she came off the stand and took Rachel out. I rocked her for a while in the Mother's Room and she fell asleep. When she woke up, she said she wanted to go to Primary, so I took her, fully expecting to have them bring her to me in about 25 seconds. She stayed the rest of the time and her teacher said she did just fine.

After church, my mom came over and we had fun playing with the kids. Steve didn't get home until 6:00, so I ended up making Mother's Day dinner, and we started eating just a few minutes before he walked in the door. I had no idea when to expect him. I guess there was a big issue with the Primary budget that he had to get figured out and he also had to take care of the tithing and a few other things. Since he was alone, it took forever. That's part of my stress, we knew he wouldn't get home in time to go visit his mom, and I had hoped we could visit her on Saturday, but that didn't end up working out either. Having him in the bishopric and also having the late session of church (1-4pm) isn't exactly conducive to Sunday holidays. We never know when he will get home and if we will get to visit anyone.

Sunday night, Rachel woke up at 11pm and was pretty much crying and fussing until 4:30am because of an earache. What a miserable night that was! I took her in to see Dr. Rob yesterday and one of her eardrums had burst, the other ear was really red. So thank goodness for antibiotics! She slept all night last night, and at least I know why she was so upset at church on Sunday. Jake had his last soccer rpactice of the season yesterday afternoon, and the parents got to play against the kids. Steve hasn't ever been able to be there for that before, so he had a lot of fun playing with them yesterday!

Mother's Day

Every year I get so stressed out trying to figure out what to give my mom and Steve's mom for Mother's Day. I can't afford to get them something really nice, which is what I would love to do. Sometimes I come up with an idea that I think is great, only to be disappointed by their reactions. This year, I am again facing that dilemma. I have something small for them and am making something yummy for them also. I hope it works out.
The kids are making pictures/cards for them, Rachie especially enjoys doing that!
I guess I just wish that they could know that I really love and appreciate them, I just can;t figure out how to show it with a present.
