Hello

Well, the auction night is done. Becka made more than her camp fee, so I am happy. I practically killed myself that week, prepping for everything. Friday I was on my feet all day long. Baking, cooking, cleaning, then setting up for the dinner, etc. I was sore the next day, but I'm so glad it;s over. Next year, remind me of how miserable and stressed I was and I'll just fork out the 135 bucks for her camp. LOL!! I was pretty proud that my cake went for $19 and I had two boxes of four cinnamon rolls that went for $10 each!
My birthday went pretty good. Jake's Pinewood Derby was that morning at 8:30 way up in Ridgefield, so we didn't get to sleep in. Jake's car took first place in every race it ran, and so he gets to go to regionals next month. He's pretty excited about it. It's a good thing Steve is an engineer and can help Jake with all that stuff. They had a good time building and painting his car.
One of my best friends, Melissa, came up and took me to lunch and we stopped at a couple of stores to look for something I'd been waiting to use my birthday money on. Of course, the two things I've really wanted to get forever weren't there when I finally had the money for them. I was sad, but that's the way it seems to go for me. We found a few other things that we liked/needed. I'm excited about a big insulated bag I got. I'm gonna use it when we go out on the wave runners this summer. I usually have several bags and the cooler, stroller, life jackets, etc and it's a big pain. I'm hoping to get the packing down to a couple of bags so that I have a good system that works better.
Anyway, back to my birthday. After Melissa dropped me off, I watched the movie Despicable Me with the family. We watched it at the beach house last time we went and I loved it, so Steve got it for me for my bday. It is so funny!!! After the movie, we made the stuff for Cafe Rio and went to my mom's house to have that and cake/ice cream with her, my brother's family and my grandparents. Sunday, we had dinner at the Ard's, and I got to share a bday celebration with my cutie pie nephew Lukas. He turned one on the 8th.
Monday, Steve took me to Ikea (again, the thing I'd been waiting for was gone. Ugh!), and then we had strawberry shortcake at Tebo's. Yummmm!!!
I have a ton of pictures that I need to share with you all...I will do that as soon as I can. Hannah's crib is in the office, and since the only time I have for working on the computer is when she's sleeping, I haven't gotten a lot done lately. Right now I'm on Steve's work laptop in the family room. :)

It figures!

Guess who got sick this weekend???? Me. Of course! I had plans to get all of the YW auction stuff done with Becka, actually go grocery shopping so that we had some food in the house, clean a bit, hang out with Dana and Derek and their girls. UGH!!!! I usually just ignore it when I'm sick and push through. This time I was down. I couldn't take any meds since I am nursing Ladybug, so I was miserable. I got up to feed her, help the kids when I had to, etc, but other than that, I was in my bed. I'm thankful that it was a weekend. Steve took Jake to both of his soccer games on Saturday and fed the kids, etc so I could rest as much as possible. My mom took Rachel all day Sunday for me so that I could send the big kids to church and only have Hannah to worry about for most of the day. Yesterday I was starting to feel better, but I overdid it, running around, trying to clean up (my house was awful!) and ended up in bed early with a bad headache. Today I finally feel like I'm on the mend. My voice is scratchy and hoarse, but I'm not all stuffy headed/achy/feverish anymore. I have been coughing a bit, especially at night. Everyone I know who has had this ick ends up with a yucky cough for a couple of weeks afterward. I'm hoping hoping hoping that I don't get that part.
So now I'm almost on freak out mode. This YW fundraiser is making me lose my mind. I'm getting things done slowly, but I wish I could just get it all over with fast, so I can look forward to my bday!!

Learning to say no

This seems to be a reoccurring issue for me. I simply cannot seem to say no to anyone (well, except my kids, and even then I have a hard time).
Here's my most recent dilemma: The YW are having a ward dinner/talent show/silent auction/bake sale for the girls camp fundraiser on March 11. As a YW board, we have planned it out and gotten things assigned. My part of it was to work with the 1st counselor on the silent auction part. I was excited. Yes, it's a lot of prep work...getting items, making auction sheets, tallying the info that night, collecting money and making sure everyone receives their items. But, it's something I could do, the lady I was doing it with is super fun and I was looking forward to a behind the scenes kind of job. :)
Well, last Sunday we had a board meeting and somehow I got assigned to do the decorations. I didn't want to do them, I tried to voice my "negativity" about doing the decorations, but everyone there had it in their heads that I was the one to do it, so I got it. That's fine. I'm going super, and I mean SUPER, simple. The other leaders are ok with that, so that's the plan. They also want to do something in the talent show portion of it as YW leaders.
I get home from my meeting and Steve informs me that the bishopric has been asked to do something for the talent show, they want the wives to be part of it also, and the bishop thinks that since I've been to girls camp a lot, I'd be the perfect person to write the skit and plan it and get it all ready. Add that to my "to do" list.
I'm also up to my elbows in preparations for the items that Becka and I are getting ready for the auction. I'm working on two fairy costumes (tutu, wings, headbands and wands, three of those "We Believe" picture frames that I posted about a month ago (frames need to be painted, flowers made and glued on, etc), I'm doing a bunch of hair clippies and headbands which I haven't started, Becka's making a scarf, I'm decoupaging a treasure box, framing a few of our photography prints and going through my stuff to find anything else that might be able to be auctioned. We are making cookies, cinnamon rolls and a fancy cake the day of the auction.
The next thing I know, the YW president has asked that I take the Beehives around to athletic clubs and restaurants in the area one afternoon and see if they can get any donations for our auction. So that would mean me, up to 6 11-12 year olds and my other three kids driving all over town with me most likely being the one doing the talking. First of all, I have a big car, but it isn't big enough for that many people, so I'd have to find (and possibly pay for) a sitter for Jake and Rachie, second, I don't have the time or desire to do something like that. I did finally tell them that I wasn't doing that. Somebody else's mom who isn't in the YW presidency can do it.
So not only do I have all of that stuff to do, I'm trying to take care of my family, get kids to their various activities (Jake has indoor and outdoor soccer practices and games, and an after school sports class once a week, scouts on Thursdays, Becka has bowling every morning at 6:15, Mutual on Wednesdays, Rachie has swimming twice a week), get caught up on the never ending laundry and I've been going through and de-cluttering my office/craft room so that things will be nicer. With Steve in the bishopric and him working so far from home, I rarely see him, and when he's here I feel like I'm either working on some project or running to another meeting and not being with him. It's just too much for me. I know some people wouldn't bat an eye at that list, but I'm still in a place with my depression/anxiety that I don't want to push it too far. I want to feel good and be happy and take a tiny bit of time to help myself feel good too now and then. Is that so wrong?
So, while I am proud of myself for finally saying no about the one task, I wish I had the good sense to tell them to only give me one or two things to do instead of a bunch of things. I'd cut out the auction items, but Becka needs those to help pay for camp ($135!!!!), and I had already promised to help her with those things before I got all the additional assignments. I must let people walk all over me, since it seems that some of them are inclined to just do it automatically and dismiss me when I try to object. One day soon I'm either going to surprise them all by a) refusing to do anything, b) freaking out on them when they start dumping stuff on me or c) having a nervous breakdown. :)

So, if you'll excuse me, I have to go feed the baby and then finish painting three picture frames, a treasure box and two donation cans...

Fudge lover's strawberry truffle cake

Are you drooling yet? I've been trying out new recipes lately, mostly for dinner, since we rarely have dessert. Angie shared this recipe on her blog and I had to try it. It is heaven! Steve calls it "woman cake" because it is so rich and chocolatey. I love anything that involves ganache, so I knew it had to be made! Go here: http://kristendukephotography.com/?p=3009 for the recipe. It's a treat! I also made Thai noodle salad for the first time tonight (forgot to take a picture), so we got two new recipes on the same day!

On hold...

The whole "thirty days" thing is on hold for now. Steve is in the process of rebuilding my computer and I can't find anything on it. I'll start up again when he's done and I know where the pictures are, lol!
